Training and fact-finding mission in Gabon

35 CBRN project is funded by the Directorate General Development and Cooperation of the European Commission (DG DEVCO) within the CBRN Centres of Excellence (CoR) in order to improve the management of hazardous chemicals and biological waste . 


From April 26 to 27, a training was held in Libreville, Gabon, from 4 expert working group and representatives of institutions, key ministries and organizations in Gabon, carefully selected by the national correspondent.


Meanwhile, the second-finding mission (FFM) in Gabon for the work package 4 Phase II CoB CBRN 35 project took place during the visit in Gabon 27-28 April 2016, the first training course on management of biohazardous waste.


After studying the reports of the Phase I, a list of topics was discussed with the Local Support Team to complete the detailed information necessary for the preparation of the 2nd training course on Biological Hazardous Waste Risk Management. Interviews were conducted with staff from the National Public Health Laboratory, participants in the first training course, the independent contractor and the AGENOR guidelines.


The training program was part of the Council of Europe's program to strengthen the defense capabilities and CBRN response through cooperation among nations. In this context, the project 35 aims to promote best practices in the management of chemical and biological waste to participating countries of the African front.


The work program 4 of this project is to develop a sustainable training system in the biological waste management through training of key individuals who will themselves become trainers "train the trainers".


The training took place over 2 days at the Boulevard Hotel conference room with 21 participants from Gabon present. The project team was delayed on arrival in Gabon due to flight cancellation, but rose the next day by condensing the reception and proceeding rapidly with the course material has been successfully delivered within 2 days. The course was well received and all participants indicated that their objectives and expectations were met.
